Accepting your fetish
by Mistress Jaded, March 2002
When you look in the mirror what do you see? Yourself, I hope. But no, really, go a little deeper. Into the deep dark corners of your world. What makes you tick? Now that you have gone that far, go even deeper. What makes your toes curl and makes you take a quick breath? Is it the smell of new leather? Binding or being bound? Being forced into "consensual sex"? Well whatever it is, you aren't alone. Yes, there really is a Santa Claus.
We all have little or big fetishes that make us hot and bothered. It's ok to accept this about yourself. You will learn when you do accept it, you can enjoy it more and be more comfortable with yourself and others around you.
To this day I get a chuckle when I realize that to some, my own personal fetishes are mild comparative to some others. Variety is the spice of life they say. And that you can believe. I know I am more relaxed when I can enjoy my fetishes in a safe and consensual environment.
There are others who share your fetishes. It's an unfortunate fact that society as a whole is puritanical by nature. The general public suppresses their inner needs and wants, thinking that it's dirty. (I don't know about you, hell, but I love dirty). Remember, don't deny yourself exploration.
Experiment and explore in a safe environment. Read as much as you can about your particular fetishes and how to do them safely. The key here is to enjoy them and not to hurt yourself unwittingly. Take responsibility for your activities. Don't force others into activities they are not willing to try or lure them into play that makes them uncomfortable. Take the time to find your kink buttons. It's ok to have reservations about some things. Something new can be scary but yet very exciting.
So pick up that leather flogger. Hold those cold steel handcuffs. Wear those pretty panties and thigh highs. And bask in the warmth that you too are a fetishist, accept it and enjoy it.
